Avenue School GOOD to GO, GO, GO

27 September 2017

What an amazing journey the Avenue Primary School have been on – and finally this was recognised by a robust Ofsted inspection which took place in July 2017 and which rated the school as “good” in all areas.

The Avenue was put into “Special Measures” back in 2013 and under the guidance of Stuart Porter, Executive Head, the senior leaders, staff, governors and parents have worked extremely hard to ensure that all the children have the best possible learning experiences and life chances.

Ofsted praised this partnership and the dynamic teamwork which they felt was instrumental in making the rapid improvements at the school. They commented that senior leaders were highly skilled and enthusiastic and how staff were proud to work at the Avenue. They felt expectations were high and noted that staff work hard to ensure that pupils make the best possible progress.  As a result, pupils’ achievement in reading, writing and mathematics was rising.

Importantly, parents felt that the school was a vibrant, happy place which provided  a safe learning environment for their children.

Caroline Thomas,  Headteacher at the Avenue, thanked the “committed” staff at the school who have made this possible, along with the support received from The Acorn Trust.  She said, “this is a testament to the commitment and hard work of all the staff here and I want to take this opportunity to thank them for their professionalism and dedication in a process that was, at times, quite challenging”.

This is now a hugely significant time for the Avenue and a wonderful opportunity to build on the work that has been done so far. The whole school community is naturally delighted with the outcome and are looking forward to moving the school on to even bigger and better things.

Visitors are always welcome to see the school in action. Open Days for prospective parents, particularly those with children starting school in September 2018 are planned for 12th October and 7th November 2017.  Contact the school for further details.
